All you need in addition to the flowers are some food colors from your kitchen, a vessel to keep the flowers, and some water. You need:

  1. White flowers – As you required
  2. Food coloring – Any color / colors
  3. Containers
  4. Water

What next?

Step 1: Take the containers and fill with water.

Step 2: Add a food color each to each containers. Try to make concentrated solutions of different colors.

Step 3: Cut the flower stem of each flower and put it in the colored water. Now absorption of colors through the stem started.

Step 4: Leave the container for a  few hours. Check after every 2 hrs. After 5-6 hours colors will appear at the tip of the flower.

Wait for a day to complete the process.

Step 5: Over the next day you will see that color is appear in all petals and even leaves. Now take the flowers and start to make a wonderful bouquet with it.

How does food coloring affect flowers?

When you dip the stem of a flower into a container with water-based food color, the stem carries water through the pores of stems and reaches the flower petals. The water particles that reached flowers and leaves of a plant will later evaporate to escape into air. The water with food color that was carried to the flower petals will affect flowers by changing its color.

Why do flowers change color in food colors?

Flowers change color due to transpiration process when they are dipped into food colors. The food color can change the color of petals, stem and leaves, but the visibility of color change on white petals is more prominent than on other parts of the plant.

How do flowers absorb colored water?
