Colouring Apple Experiment: This is a super cool experiment with apples. This experiment may also give your ideas to help your mom in keeping apples from rusting. As the experiment uses knife, we strongly suggest performing this experiment under the supervision of an adult.
Try it yourself
- An airtight jar
- Two bowls
- Normal water
- Hot water
- A tray
- Paper chits
- Stop watch
- A notepad to record the observations
Step 1: Cut an apple into six pieces.
Step 2: Keep one piece of the apple without making any modifications on the tray
Step 3: Cut a lemon and apply the lemon juice on another piece of apple and keep it on the tray.
Step 4: Apply some salt on another piece of apple and keep it on the tray.
Step 5: Fill one of the bowls with boiling water (perform this only under the supervision of an adult) and take it out after a few minutes and keep it on the tray.
Step 6: Keep one piece of apple in the airtight jar and close the jar tightly.
Step 7: Pour normal water in to a bowl. Keep the last slice of apple in the bowl of normal water.
Step 8: Mark each slices of apple to know the process it has undergone.
Step 9: Start your stop watch and observe how fast the discolouration process is happening on each slice. Note your observations on the notepad.
Colouring Apple Logic: For understanding the logic, please read ‘Do You Know Why Apple Slices Change their Colour after being cut’. Write your observations from the experiment in our comment box with your own conclusions.
