Try it yourself

You need:

  1. Transparent glass bottle
  2. Salt
  3. Liquid Soap
  4. Alcohol
  5. Grapefruit

What next?

Step 1: Start by spitting into the glass bottle.

Step 2: Add a pinch of salt and liquid soap to it.

Step 3: Extract some grapefruit juice.

Step 4: Add some grapefruit juice and some drops of alcohol to the glass bottle.

Step 5: Stir the solution.

You will see some white mucus filaments on the top of the mixture. This is your DNA.

Logic:

Your saliva contains cells from your mouth is and these cells have DNA inside them. DNA is protected with membranes and the liquid soap will help you to break down these membranes. The salt helps the denaturing of DNA while the grapefruit juice protects DNA from possible damages.
