How long will Earth be inhabitable for humans?
Can Earth survive? If so, how long will Earth be inhabitable for humans? In May 2017, the famous theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking came in a BBC program with an interesting documentary called “Stephen Hawking: Expedition New Earth”. In the documentary he gives us a clear time frame for the question “How long will humans live on Earth?” and “How will Earth die?”. What Hawking had to inform the world is something that we always worries about – The End of Earth. The physicist affirmed that with the changes in climate, overdue asteroid strikes, devastating epidemics and population growth, the earth is increasingly He asserted that with climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly vulnerable. He further emphasized the need for humans to colonize a new planet soon. The worries that many scholars had – ‘how long will earth be inhabitable for humans’ is now almost answered by Hawking.
Stephen Hawking’s documentary gave an ultimatum for the humans and urged mankind to discover a new plant to call it our home. BBC said in their news that “Professor Stephen Hawking thinks the human species will have to populate a new planet within 100 years if it is to survive.” Through his documentary, Expedition New Earth, Hawking called upon Danielle George, an engineering expert, and Christophe Galfard, a former student of Hawking, to find out how humans can move out to the space and find another planet.
Expedition Planet Dot – Search for a new Earth
Realizing the seriousness in the caution that put forward by the physicist, NASA is speeding up its research activities to discover an alternative for the planet Earth. Can the missions like Kepler Telescope and TRAPPIST help NASA to find a new planet for us? When we are still discovering new planets of the Sun, how much long will it take to find a planet outside our solar system? Will Earth be inhabitable for humans until we discover a new planet? Hope the initiates of discovering a new planet help the mankind to survive longer.
We have more to hold on. Researches are still on active phase to find the possibilities of living on the planet Mars. Though we now know that there are no intelligent Martians, scientists are still exploring the planet to know whether there is any life existing on Mars. Even if life exists on Mars, is Mars habitable for humans? Whether it is Mars or Jupiter, we have a deadline – 100 years from now.
While the world is busy for answering the question ‘How Long Will Earth Be Inhabitable For Humans?’, and the doubts on Mars regarding its habitability, humans theoretically identified a 10th planet in our Solar System. Moreover, the billionaire CEO Elon Musk has expressed his intention to colonize our neighbor – Mars – as part of his SpaceX program.
Prior to his recent documentary that challenged the world, Hawking also warned humans about the advancement in artificial intelligence boomeranging against humans. After all these cautioning, he also said, “We are not going to stop making progress, or reverse it, so we have to recognize the dangers and control them,” he further added. “I’m an optimist, and I believe we can.”
Let us also be optimists and try our little bit for the survival of humankind. We may not be able to stop the asteroid strikes, but we can surely slow down the population growth. We can also love our environment and start living cleaner. It is time to ask ourselves, can earth survive?
