Liquid Battery Project

Liquid Battery

We have already finished a simple project on electricity with fruits. This time, let us try to make a Liquid Battery using fluids like water, oil, vinegar, salt water, soapy water, and Pepsi.

Project Questions:

  1. Can all liquids produce electricity?
  2. Which liquid (from the selected liquids) produce most electricity?

Things that you need:

  1. 4 glass tumblers
  2. Liquids of selection – water, vegetable oil, vinegar, salt water, soapy water, and Pepsi
  3. Zinc nails – 4 in number
  4. Copper wires – 5 in number
  5. A digital multimeter
  6. A marker
  7. Project data card

Procedure:

Step 1: Insert copper wires and zinc nails to the tumblers as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Fill the tumblers with water first (mark the levels).

Step 3: Connect the two ends (free ends of copper wires) to the digital multimeter and measure the voltage. Record the voltage observation on the Project data chart.

Step 4: Repeat the steps with other selected liquids as well.
